West Hollywood Aquatic Center - Where we work to keep our community safe

Who We Are

We are the lifeguards and aquatic aides at the West Hollywood Aquatic Center. For years, we've been dedicated to keeping our community safe, teaching children to swim, and providing exceptional service to West Hollywood residents.

Whether we're on the stand, in the water teaching lessons, or supporting pool operations, we all share the same challenges: we're temporary employees with no job security, no voice in our working conditions, and no protection from arbitrary decisions. That stops now.

Why We're Organizing

We're organizing with AFSCME because we believe:

  • Every worker deserves respect and dignity
  • We should have a say in decisions that affect our jobs
  • Job security shouldn't be a privilege—it should be a right
  • Our working conditions directly impact the safety of our community
  • Clear, consistent standards make everyone's job easier and safer

What We're Winning

  • Job security and clear pathways to permanent employment
  • Fair wages that reflect our training and experience
  • Better benefits including disability insurance and sick leave
  • A voice in policy decisions that affect our daily work
  • Just cause protections so discipline is fair and documented
  • Written safety standards that are consistently applied and enforceable
  • Professional grievance process to resolve workplace disputes fairly
